I am pleased to advise that the BBC have agreed to cover the running costs of Island Blogging for 2010. No strings attached.

Carol, of old IBHQ, actually made the offer for last year but by then the costs had been covered by donations so I didn’t need to take up the offer. This year she has once again persuaded her bosses to stump up. Well done, and thanks, to Carol and to the BBC.

Look what can de done when they no longer have to pay Jonathon Ross!

  1. Good news indeed–but (hang my head in shame),who the he*l is jonathon ross?

  2. Have you never bought frozen food or pickles?

That’s great news, Les! No moderating? I can continue to swear like a trooper, advertise shamelessly and generally be a dreadful ol’ Landlady?

  4. stromnessdragon says:

Oh that’s brilliant! I love the Beeeeeb even if it took three days to post a comment and even then they didn’t put it up. Good for Carol, good for them. I’m filling up now……*sniff*

  5. Landlady - no strings as I said otherwise I wouldn’t have accepted. Feel free to use same language here as you would with one of your tenants who failed to clean up the tide mark round the bath when leaving.

  6. calum–i ocasioanlly buy frozen peas or green beans, but whats the conection betwen froozen food and j ross?

  7. thelandlady says:

Well, Taddoe, Ross is a famous brand of frozen foods- their fish fingers were a regular treat when I was but a lass.
unfortunately, Jonathan Ross has absoulutely hee haw to do with this family run business, although I was sorely tempted to pull your leg and tell you he was the black sheep of the family and had to turn to being a chat show host after the family threw him out. He’d been tampering with the frozen fish….two haddock and a bag of prawns were found stuffed down his underpants, the young fool. No. That last bit’s a lie, sorry, Taddoe..
He’s a chat show host who got into a lot of trouble after a prank on his radio show went a bit too far.

  8. thelandlady says:

and Les, that’s fine, I know exactly what’s permissible now in the way of sweary words, thank you very much!

  9. That’s great, Les. To think that J Ross and T Wogan between them have paid for your expenses! Thank you BBC, thank you Carol (and good luck to you, too! and thanks for all your input on Old IB).

  10. Thanks jill–come on tel me what prank did he pull on his radio show????
(don’t laugh, but i have never tasted fish fingers—gran used to maek home-made fish cakes from freshly caught trout,or salmon,or one year whilst on holiday in port banatyne out of makeral papa and caugh tout in the kyles of bute (maybe i’ll buy a box next time at the grocers

  11. thelandlady says:

If you google Russell Brand and Johnathan Ross, you’ll find out, Taddoe- too lengthy to explain here!

  12. Thanks LL–i’ve just had a “google” not a funny joke to play,I agree, they sound like a couple of immature idiots who are paid too much money,to do vey little(yes,i know, i’m :green:

  13. AnInterestedReader says:

For Chri&*#sake: you can set this up for yourselves on WordPress–for FREE! Or on Blogger–FOR FREE! Why this dependence on the BBC? These are great blogs and I love reading them, and their success should not depend on the charity of the BBC. In fact, if you email me and if folks are interested, I will take it upon myself to set this up and make it work. Bah on the BBC.

  14. I think that you should take up the offer from AnInterestedReader, and I’ll give you my bank details, and the Beeb can just donate to Thewhitesettlers re-housing campaigne. Then me and Dodgy Dave can go into town, and get Lillian Gished on the proceeds. Just a thought…….

  15. An Interested Reader: the attraction of the BBC IB site was the real sense of community it engendered.

  16. And it’s thanks to Les and all his hard work (and possibly Son Of Les, him being a young thing) that you islandbloggers have all your nice little widgets to play with. I fear interestedreader doesn’t know what he/she is talking about.
If you all had standalone blogs on WP it would be like each individual being cast away on a Cruel Sea… This way, there’s still a sense of community.

  17. Hear,hear,jill + kc

  18. Bit puzzled as to why BBC would feel inclined to subsidise/support IB but looking at gift horse etc in mouth not good idea so for now, many thanks BBC/Carol and to Les for maintaining course……RJG

  19. Well, for what it is worth I agree with everyone except An Interested Reader, but let us hope he/she continues to be An Interested Reader and an interesting and informed commentator on IB. Oh and Les, how are the plans for the move going? Fingers crossed here for youse.
