You are welcome to sign up for a free personal blog on Island Blogging subject to the following

Any person may request a blog on Island Blogging if they

• Are a permanent resident on a Scottish Island, or
• Own property on a Scottish Island in which they occasionally reside or which they wish to write about, or
• Are a temporary resident of a Scottish Island for a period longer than a normal holiday (e.g. on a work placement or sabbatical), or
• Are intending to move to a Scottish Island provided that they write only about their relocation plans until such time as they become a resident.

These conditions form part of the Terms of Service which you will be asked to accept before gaining access to your blog.

How you use your blog is up to you - use it as a diary, to record your life, to have a chat, to expound your views on the world, whatever! If you run a small business (especially if you are a one-man-band) you are welcome to add a page to your blog giving details. You won’t be able to sell anything directly but you can list whatever it is that you do or sell and include product details. You can mention updates to the page in your blog but please keep the blog itself primarily personal and don’t use it purely to promote your business.

There are a few things you can’t do. In order to ensure that we don’t have any problems with our webhost you can’t - upload videos, upload mp3’s or upload files for subsequent download. You can, however, link to these things if they are hosted on another site.

Apart from that the usual considerations apply - don’t be offensive and don’t publish other people’s personal details without their knowledge or permission. The Terms of Service contain the full details of any other restrictions but, basically, the idea is - just be sensible.

You can blog as often or as little as you wish but, to keep things tidy, if you sign up for a blog and you don’t use it at all within the first 30 days it will be deleted. If you decide later that you want to start over you will be free to sign up again.
