Support Island Blogging

DONATIONS

I would like to sincerely thank the handful of bloggers who made a contribution towards the running costs of the site and I would like to especially thank those visitors who donated for no other reason than that they enjoyed Island Blogging.

It has become clear, however, that some people expect some sort of ‘rights’ from a voluntary donation - which presumably they would not expect from a charity donation? - so donations will not be called for in future. Alternative arrangements for funding the site will be put in place.

PROMOTION

We have a good core of bloggers already here but they represent only a tiny fraction of the folks on the islands who regularly use the internet and we would like many more to join our community. A simple way you can help is to ask your local Post Office or Community Centre if they will allow you to put up a notice letting people know we are here. If you click on the link below you will be able to download a notice that you can print at home and distribute. The link should open either in your browser window or in Adobe Acrobat Reader and the document can then be saved to you computer or printed directly. Alternatively you can right click on the link and choose ‘Save file/link as…’ to save it directly on your computer.

Download flyer

Print out a few copies and post them around your local community. If you make a trip to another island take a few copies with you and get them posted up wherever you can.

If you have any other ideas on promoting Island Blogging please share them on the questions/Comments page.

  2. Hi Les,
Now 2010 looms on the horizon and I wonder how the IB finances are looking for the next year. I will willingly provide a measure of financial support with of course no strings attached, if this is needed. Since the summer shindy things seem to have settled down again with a devoted core of bloggers but the administrator doesn’t get a mention anywhere. My thanks go on record for your efforts.
    Sincere regards,
    Barney

  3. Barney - thanks for the thoughts. After all the hoo-ha I decided to back off from participating in IB and just be around to do the fixes when things went wrong which I have been doing. I had intended to come back once we moved to The Outer Hebrides which we had hoped would have been by the end of this year. Since then, however, our lives have been turned upside down by a death in the family and the chances of us being there by year’s end are now virtually nil. But we will be there one day!

On the finance front I have something planned for next year which will fund the site without donations (don’t worry it’s not advertising). If it doesn’t pan out then I will be coming cap in hand with a nice begging letter!

  4. Sorry to hear you’re sad news:hopefully you’ll make it soon to the isles

  5. Good luck and best wishes to you, Les. I hope your plans will turn out OK in the end. And I too will be happy to chip in to the fund, just say the word. No need for a cap in hand :-)

  6. I thought you might like to add my new, nearly daily updated photoblog of an Isle of Lewis crofter. http://islandcrofters.blogspot.com/.

  7. Sorry to hear your news! Hope things are going well now. I finally have PayPal working but I see that the donations thing has been changed. How annoying that some folk got cheeky after making a donation. I haven’t blogged much over the past months simply because I’ve been downright trashed by this pregnancy ~ but that’s nothing new for womankind hehe! Now I’m making an effort to stay in touch because, oddly enough, the babies are sideways in my belly and I actually feel a bit better with them in that position! I love Island Bloggling and I hope it never disapears!
