Every summer in the UK, there’s always a whole host of spectacular sporting occasions to enjoy. And key amongst these must be the Ascot races which display the magnificent sport of horse racing to the accompaniment of some top class hospitality and traditional British cheer.

And if you’re thinking of attending Ascot, then here are a few great places to consider staying whilst you catch up on the horse racing action.

Windsor

Ascot Racecourse is known to be the royal racecourse for good reason as it is located very close to the Queen’s residence of Windsor.

Windsor is a deeply historical town steeped in tradition and will make a fascinating excursion for the history buff. Once the day’s racing has finished and you’ve examined the form of the next day’s running, a short drive to Windsor will transport you to a place where the past comes to life.

In particular, the magnificent Windsor Castle is well worth a visit as it offers guided tours of the state apartments, as well as a chance to witness the wonderfully British Changing of the Guard.

Wokingham

Another pleasant place to visit nearby is the Berkshire market town of Wokingham. This was recently named as being England’s healthiest place to live with its prosperous charms all too evident to see.

Key attractions include the idyllic Dinton Pastures Country Park as well as the annual Wokingham Festival that celebrates the area’s reputation for excellent food and drink with an end of summer spectacular in the relaxing confines of Elms Field.

Bracknell

The nearby town of Bracknell also offers a pleasing selection of attractions for those rare moments where you’ll be away from Ascot.

Bracknell provides a splendid range of exclusive boutique shopping opportunities as well as plenty of chic cafés and restaurants.

But one of the main reasons why people flock to Bracknell is the fact that it’s surrounded by a vast expanse of sumptuous woodland. Swinley Woods and Crowthorne Woods offer a great range of walks to partake in, and the nearby Look Out Discovery Centre provides an educational and fun way for children to let off a bit of energy!

And finally, although the town of Ascot is somewhat dominated by the racecourse itself, there are plenty of great ways that you can spend a little time here

The pretty Berkshire town has plenty of shops to cater to the most eclectic of tastes, and there’s also a good selection of bars and live music venues to visit. Furthermore, the amusement park Thorpe Park is located nearby too, so you’ll never be short of excitement in this charming part of the world.
