Welcome back to (new new) Island Blogging. You have probably already noticed a few changes but I’ll go through everything here.
Firstly, although transferring a site is supposed to be as easy as copying the files and database it is in fact extremely complex when it involves Wordpress! I have tested and tested and tried to get everything exactly as it was but a few things have proved impossible so you might have to do the following tweaks yourself.
- If you changed your header photo you will have to do it again as, although the files are still here, the links wouldn’t work so I have reset all headers to the default images for the theme
- If you didn’t change your theme then you will notice that your theme has changed to the new default theme. If you want to change it back to Seashore you can do so by following the tutorial Changing Themes
- You may have to reactivate some of your plugins such as Smileys
- You might have to go through the process of approving comments again (I am not sure about this). Of course, once approved further comments from the same author will appear automatically
- Sadly there is bad news for those that liked the weather plugin as I have disabled it for the time being as it threw a couple of errors in testing. Hopefully I’ll bring it back if I can.
- Finally some good news - I have increased the allowed size of uploaded photos to 600 pixels wide and to 450 pixels wide on the blog. Both of these will be automatic so you can just upload as usual providing the file size doesn’t exceed 1.5Mb. To top that everybody’s storage space has been increased from 10Mb to 25Mb!
That should be about it but there may be some things I have missed so if you notice something that is not right let me know. There are also a few cosmetic changes that might not be immediately obvious and it might be an idea to delete your browser cache in case it is picking up certain graphics from the old site.
Now I can play with a neat trick I discovered on how to make Posts appear as pages (which are not the same as Pages!) so please go on to the next page (if page numbers are not shown below click the title of this post). Before you read on have a play with the little buttons up in the top right hand corner of this block. Neat eh? (if it works on your computer of course!)

Just returned from a trip back to NZ to find I can no longer comment as before as I don’t live on the Islands. Using this comment as a trial to see whether it will be accepted or not. The page looks lovely!
Plaid - of course you can comment. There never was a need to sign up as a user in order to comment, that is a feature that is used on ‘member only’ sites and should have been disabled at the outset.
Comment on what you like. The first time you comment on each blog the blog owner will have to approve you but after that your comments will appear immediately.
